Senseless

This was the Inspire Me Thursday challenge this week:

Now that we have put our sense to the test let’s see what we can do when we take them away…
This weeks challenge is to create a piece of art without using your senses.

I tried to do this piece at first as just something without my senses – brown ink, a stamp, limited. But, then the red came in, because
the thing that almost immediately comes to my mind when I think of “Senseless” is violence, and from there, I couldn’t come up with anything more senseless than the headlines in the papers every day. I don’t even subscribe to the paper, but on Sundays, they seem compelled to bring me one, I don’t know why. I usually read news off the Internet – NY Times or from the myriad of web sites I frequent. But anyway, these were headlines from today’s news.

  1. If there is one thing that is senseless – it’s violence. What a unique take on the challenge. It gives me a feeling of anger and sadness – great job!

  2. Love the way you played with the semantics of “senseless.”

I suppose one could say that senseless acts (and ways of being) involve people who have lost access to their senses too, huh?

  3. Thanks for commenting on my blog … it’s been such a release to blurt all that gunk into the universe and have it found by people who feel the same way. I truly believe if the majority could ever get it’s act together, if we could take economics and ego out of it, we might not have quite so many headlines such as these. Sounds dreadfully utopian and unrealistic, doesn’t it? I guess I’ve just finally decided to reach for the moon rather than sit down.

I really enjoyed visiting your corner of the Internet, this piece especially hit me. I’m with Deb and Cheryl: Great way to take on this challenge!

I also loved the lines: “Racing and hunting madden the mind.
Precious things lead one astray.” Terrific! And that puppy is too cute.

    I’ll be back …
