Not just a river in Egypt

From my good friend John Pierce:

So, Fed Reserve Board Chair Ben Bernanke calmly
reassures the Joint Congressional folks yesterday and
the Senate today that there’s only a weak possibility
we could suffer a recession here in a couple of
months, but we’re not in such now…

Uh-huh. Here’s an idea, Benny. Both you and Treasury
Secretary Henry Paulson get your lardy rumps laid off,
right frickin’ now, and instead of receiving any
severance you both have to find brand new jobs. Then,
we’ll see just how rosy your vision is, and how brave
you are. And maybe we could lay off our fabled Decider
and his Shotgun, too.

I’ve said it tiresomely. We’ve been in a recession
since at least JULY 2007. I’m living proof of this
economic slump.

Resilient economy my desperate for work ass!

Johnny

Best hopes for a new, wonderful job for you very, very soon, my friend…..

  1. Things is just fine down here on the plantation.

I know I’ve said this before, but there is some strange something in the power/money elite which does not like a prosperous middle class, or even a prosperous working class. Oh, sure, they mouth the (true) words that consumer spending drives the economy, but they still don’t like it.

It’s like people who recognize that smoking is killing them, but they do it anyway. Well, pretty crappy analogy, I suppose. I’ll try to think of a better one.

  2. It seems to me that, except for the very wealthy, America has been in a recession since around 1980. Average wages for most working-class and middle-class people have stagnated since then. Pay for CEOs and other “superstars” of the modern economy, has exploded.

  3. You’re right, Marc – average wages in real dollars have actually remained the same or even declined since the late 70s early 80s. The Reagan Revolution only benefited the upper tiers.

And gerry, I don’t think it is animosity so much as simply a lack of caring – what has struck me most since the mid 80s is the pure selfishness of most people, both socially and economically. I had friends cut me off for various reasons, including expressing my political views, without a thought, and calling me “selfish” while they were doing it! I guess they just didn’t get the irony of their own behavior. When you express to people the idea that perhaps society is not what it should be, the typical response lately is, “Well, I’m doing just fine!” as if that’s all that should matter. It really is sad.
