For all those wondering about our community – we are actually very fortunate the fire crews were able to hold this fire at Espola road. If it had crossed into Green Valley, it would have been far, far worse and much of Poway might have been destroyed. Only one home was lost on the west side of Espola. Thanks are definitely due to our fire crews, who did an excellent job..

Most of Poway’s 7,000 evacuees are returning home this week to discover a surreal situation of contrasts: charred remains of some homes or others untouched by the wicked ways of the Witch Creek fire.
At least 88 homes burned during the destruction in an erratic hopscotch pattern throughout the community, sparing some homes and claiming others in exclusive neighborhoods such as The Heritage, then moving to Bridlewood homes and randomly down Espola Road to the Range Park neighborhood behind the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Espola and Twin Peaks road intersection.

What a tragic time and what a difficult experience you have faced. I remember Southern California fires from my childhood. I have a couple of pieces of furniture from my parents home that still drop the occasional bit of soot from those long ago fires.

Yes, the fire crews were wonderful and amazing. We owe them so much.
I took some things up to the donation center in Rancho Bernardo yesterday and go tto see just a small part of the devastation – entire streets of homes gone in some places. Very sad.
