Gotta admit, Dubya is quite the fundraiser!
I actually gave money to MoveOn for pissing off Bush, not because the organization was under attack. But anyone who can actually get the idiot’s attention and let them know 70% of Americans disapprove of the war deserves a few bucks.
AMERICAblog: A great nation deserves the truth
Dear MoveOn member,
Yesterday, an amazing thing happened. After the Senate’s shameful vote, and after President Bush called MoveOn “disgusting,” our email started to fill up with messages like this one:
I’m currently in Iraq. I do not agree with this war, and if I did support this war, it would not matter. You have the RIGHT to speak the truth. We KNOW that you support us. Thank you for speaking out for being our voice. We do not have a voice. We are overshooted by those who say that we soldiers do not support organizations like MoveOn. WE DO.
YOU ARE OUR voice.
And then came the donations. By midnight, over 12,000 people had donated $500,000—more than we’ve raised any day this year—for our new ad calling out the Republicans who blocked adequate rest for troops headed back to Iraq.
The message from MoveOn members was loud and clear: Don’t back down. Take the fight back to the issues that matter.

I hope it has some effect, although I really doubt if he is going to let it stop him …
ps, this is my country: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/21/world/europe/21belgium.html?em&ex=1190606400&en=9ce497e7684a65de&ei=5087
how sad is that?
Sometimes I think the days of nation-states are simply over and we need to reform into something else. MovOn has 3.4 million members – we could practically be a small nation ourselves. California has an economy larger than all but six entire nations. We could easily be our own country.
It’s all a bit silly when “America” is engaged in a war that 70% of its people disapprove of. We have lost control of this monolith of a nation – what does it even all mean anymore?
idd, if I look at the polls, even the most die hard fans are now coming back from their earlier statements. Something is truly wrong …
The only thing we hear on our radio or tv is more casualties in Iraq, that’s all. Nothing about progress or what so ever …
They don’t show Fox news in Belgium, Bert…
OR even CNN. The ONLY news shows here that are really realistic about Iraq or much of anything else is Keith Olbermann’s Countdown, and the Daily Show with Jon Stewart’s “fake news”.
I don’t even watch television news. I get almost all my news from the Internet.
My kids pretty much only watch Colbert/Daily Show.
that’s true, but we do get CNN, but even that I don’t find really trustworthy.
If I listen to BBC news or our own international news, it does frighten me. I really don’t know what point of view to take anymore. I’ve a very uncertain future ahead of me and there is almost nothing I can do about it. My surroundings doesn’t really care. If I look at the youngsters in my neighbourhood, nobody cares about the environment, about the oil, the wars, … it’s quite f*cked up nowadays and I don’t foresee any improvement real soon.
But something has to change, no doubt. I hope to be part of it. I must …
