Oh, yes!
“This is an historic moment – for the Congress, and for the women of this country. It is a moment for which we have waited more than 200 years. Never losing faith, we waited through the many years of struggle to achieve our rights. But women weren’t just waiting; women were working. Never losing faith, we worked to redeem the promise of America, that all men and women are created equal. For our daughters and granddaughters, today we have broken the marble ceiling.” Nancy Pelosi

Premiere: 1964
Mrs. Banks:
We’re clearly soldiers in petticoats
And dauntless crusaders for woman’s votes
Though we adore men individually
We agree that as a group they’re rather stupid!
Cast off the shackles of yesterday!
Shoulder to shoulder into the fray!
Our daughters’ daughters will adore us
And they’ll sign in grateful chorus
“Well done, Sister Suffragette!”
From Kensington to Billingsgate
One hears the restless cries!
From ev’ry corner of the land:
“Womankind, arise!”
Political equality and equal rights with men!
Take heart! For Missus Pankhurst has been clapped in irons again!
No more the meek and mild subservients we!
We’re fighting for our rights, militantly!
Never you fear!
So, cast off the shackles of yesterday!
Shoulder to shoulder into the fray!
Our daughters’ daughters will adore us
And they’ll sign in grateful chorus
“Well done! Well done!
Well done Sister Suffragette!”

Well done, indeed!
Hi Donna! – Elizabeth here, your mug buddy.
My great-grandmother, Margeurite Krecker, was a leader in the suffragette movement. She became the first woman elected to any post, ever, in New York City. I believe she is sitting up in her grave right now applauding Speaker Pelosi!!!
To our grandmothers before us, and our granddaughters to come, may many more elected women break through the marble ceiling!!
Indeed, Elizabeth. I’ve come to believe that’s the only hope for this country. The old white men have lost their minds.
