Donna, yes indeedy. I really like many parts of Virginia. I have good memories over there, but there really are a bunch of strange folks that are reactionary, ultra-conservative, fascistic, and seemingly without compassion. The legislature seems filled with folks who are not conservative but super reactionaries who seem to think they are still running a plantation.
I have been working on something I call “The Republican Fine Art of Missing the Point on Race,” maybe I will post it soon to the blog.
It is amazing how the south, which was Democrat in my youth, moved to Republican as soon as the Democrats moved into the 20th century about race, and some Republicans figured out how to capture their vote by going reactionary and racist.
I heard Allen’s comments about the guy he called “Macaca,” and I can say that on this point I can’t agree with you strongly enough. I fail to understand how an elected official can expect to be allowed to make such pig-headed and ignorant statements. If this is how they do things in Virginia, then I certainly want no part of it.
