BreakingNews.ie: Rocket attack kills 26 in Iraq
Iraqi militants and rebellious Shiites challenged the US-led occupation force on two fronts today, mounting a string of attacks across the south that left dozens of people dead.

Sixteen Iraqis died in battles with US Marines in Fallujah, and at least 26 more many of them women and children were killed in a late-night rocket strike by the US military, hospital officials said.

In all, more than 140 Iraqis and 18 American soldiers have died in three days of clashes, the worst fighting since the war that toppled Saddam Hussein. A Salvadoran soldier and one from Ukraine also were killed.

Iraqi insurgents and rebellious Shiites mounted a string of attacks across the south and fought pitched battles against Marines in the turbulent city of Fallujah on Tuesday. Up to a dozen Marines, two more coalition soldiers and at least 66 Iraqis were reported killed.

And Ramadi

Iraqi insurgents and rebellious Shiites mounted a string of attacks across the south and fought pitched battles against Marines in the turbulent city of Fallujah on Tuesday. Up to a dozen Marines, two more coalition soldiers and at least 66 Iraqis were reported killed.

Reports from the city of Ramadi, near Fallujah, said dozens of Iraqis attacked a Marine position near the governor’s palace, a senior defense official said from Washington. “A significant number” of Marines were killed, and initial reports indicate it may be up to a dozen, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

And it’s going to get worse…
31 soldiers lost in four days. This is setting up to be the bloodiest month yet in Iraq.
